In the World Series of Politics, is a “Free” Market better than the “Free Market?”

by pugpugmom on November 3, 2009

Big Government thinks it knows best what America needs. Instead of focusing on its core responsibilities identified in the United States Constitution, Big Government wants to corner the market. It believes it can solve America’s economic problems with a “free” market, not the “free market.” Think of it as a “Progressive Freebies’ ” program. It is a bait and switch scheme, which is grand on promises that it has never fulfilled. For example, in 1928, Big Government 31 promised “a chicken in every pot” two years before the Great Depression.

Fact: World War II was the reason that America survived the depression, not Big Government’s programs like the New Deal.

The United States is a republic or a representative democracy. Currently, many Americans feel that Big Government is more representative of Karl Marx, Mao Zedong, and Fidel Castro, than it is of “we the people.” It is an offensive game because Big Government Left is at bat, bases loaded, with no outs in sight. It has been on a win at any cost fiscal feeding frenzy. Where is the long-term thinking with this strategy? It is imposing massive group consequences to American taxpayers based upon minute sects of special interests. Big Government Right is playing a lousy game of defense. Its performance is like watching the “standing there” team. Big Government Right has filled the infield and outfield with nothing but burned-out, incumbent spectators, who have long forgotten why they are even in the game. The only heat and noise generated in this matchup is from the tea-drinking crowd in the stands. Although, the fat lady might be warming up to sing, the game is not over and “we the people” are screaming for a rally.

Fact: The people are telling policymakers exactly what they want – smaller government.

Today, November 3rd is election day. It might not be as critical an election as 2008 was, but it is an opportunity to make a change that the framers would have supported. When possible, vote for 3rd parties (Libertarian comes to mind) that believe in the Constitution. Let the incumbents, and their respective parties know that the playing field is now level; there are new teams in the league.

Fact: Long-term success comes from having a core strategy that illuminates the sources of differentiation.

For 2110, start looking in the political minor leagues to recruit some talent to throw these Big Government phonies out of the game. Enough with the spin and the lawyers, as they have done enough damage; nominate some economists, accountants, engineers, and business people to go to Washington. Independents and 3rd parties, pledge to your district that you will honor them, even if the temptation to sell out is some sure thing staring you in the face. Be willing to commit in writing, with consequences if violated, to uphold and promote the following:

  • Fiscal responsibility and prudence
  • Transparency and honesty
  • Line item vetoes
  • Regularly scheduled town hall meetings
  • Federal audits, support HR 1207
  • Term limits
  • Freeze Congressional pay raises
  • Last but not least, the free market and its principles.

Stick with the Constitution as a guide; it has survived for over 200 years. It is what makes America different, as America remains the uncontested best place on earth to make dreams come true.

I think history will regard him as America’s worst president.
